Annie's Story
In April 2004, during Easter break Dave H's kids spent the night at friends. So at 10 pm Dave let Annie out to potty. Since Annie usually slept in his daughter's bedroom Dave decided to let her sleep with him. Sometime after 1 am Annie began to whine and paw at him and finally to bark. Now Dave knew she had been out to potty, and a bit disgruntled, got up to let her out again. When he touched the doorknob to his bedroom door it was hot. Knowing there was a fire, Dave opened the bedroom window and pushed Annie out and then climbed out himself. The old wing of the house was a total loss. This wing also contained the bedrooms of Dave's children. The house is being rebuilt and the single father of three children is alive and well because of a good dogge with good instincts.

Lexus' Story

Greenly's Lexus and her family
Dam: Larson's Crystal Moon sister to "Gargoyle's" Truck*
Sire: Greenly's Slapshot, a son of Hermes' Jumbo
In April Dori, her kids and a friend were out checking fence on her farm. Lexus began to act very strange. Weaving in front of Dori and Tom. Pushing, nudging and eventually growling and barking. They couldn't understand it and pushed her out of the way. Lexus jumped up and grabbed the sleeve of Dori's sweatshirt, tearing it. Lexus was trying to stop them from going down the trail. When she realized she couldn't stop them she turned and ran away from them down the trail and straight into a mama bear. The cubs were in a tree between Dori's group and the mama bear. Lexus grabbed the bear by the nose and was swatted off. Dori and Tom and the kids ran for the truck and waited for Lexus to come out. When Lexus came out she had two bear bites, claw marks and four puncture wounds.
A trip to the vet for stitches and antibiotics and Lexus is just fine now.
Thank you Lexus!

*"Gargoyles" Truck is actually Hermes' Truck, who is out of our breeding of Sugarbaby and Willie Boy. He was a pup owed to Linda Hermes for stud and was then sold to Gargoyle who re-registered him under his own kennel name with the registry he owns.

Lemmy's Story

Lemmy at four months
Sire: Greenly's Otis
Dam: Blaikes Skittles owned by Greenlys
Meghan and I were home watching TV as usual. It was about 8:00 Saturday and we had just let Lemmy out about 15 minutes ago to play by himself in the backyard when he began barking like he does when a person or stray dog comes too close to our fence. I got up to see what he was barking at, not as much out of real concern, but more so because it would probably be more interesting than the commercials that were on. When I walked onto our deck I immediately heard a high pitched scream along with his barking coming from around the corner of another building that shares our ally. Now we live in a four unit duplex (two side by side) in Chicago, but no one else was home to have left the gate open and we always close it; yet it was open. I called Lemmy's name and he immediately stopped barking and came trotting out from around the corner to where I could see him with a big smile on his face, wagging his tail the whole time. He didn't have any blood on him so I don't think he actually bit, but it looks like someone opened the gate in an attempt to break into one of the units and he chased them out and down the alley! We praised him, gave him a treat, and bought him a spiked collar, so maybe next time a would be robber will notice him and not even try.
It's really for them. They could get hurt.
